PGT is a strong advocate of green building practices and with an accredited LEED Green Associate on staff, PGT can take a more active role in sustainable building projects.

“We can now partner with builders and provide green building expertise not only as it relates to windows and doors,” said Bell, “but we can lend our expertise in the LEED certification system for many projects that our products will be used in.

” Bell, who is also a member of the U.S. Green Building Council Gulf Coast Chapter, has already started working with PGT customers on LEED projects to ensure they meet the appropriate certification requirements. As a PGT University trainer, she said it was a natural transition for her to become part of one of the largest growth areas in the building construction industry.

“Green building is the future, not just for Florida, but for the entire country,” she said.

Launched in 2000, PGT University is a comprehensive training program offered to PGT dealers and distributors, building professionals and PGT employees. Training is offered at the company’s 3,500-square-foot facility in N. Venice, Fla., and at locations for continuing education provided by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Construction Industry Licensing Board,Regulation.

PGTU’s Product and Technical curriculum offers training on all PGT products, as well as technical instruction on installation techniques, building codes and a PGT Reglaze Certification. The Business and Technology curriculum is designed to provide assistance to all PGT dealers in the areas of finance and planning, time management and personnel management. This curriculum includes PGT proprietary on-line ordering system, Web Weaver, as well as free, instructor-led training on Microsoft Suites.
