PGT® Industries Awarded First Ever Notices of Acceptance for WinGuard® Vinyl Windows

Performance Results to Expand Market Reach of PGT Vinyl Products
VENICE, Fla., February 19, 2009 – PGT Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of PGT, Inc. (NASDAQ: PGTI), was recently awarded two Notices of Acceptance (NOAs) by the Miami- Dade County Product Control Division and the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) for two WinGuard® Vinyl products. This is the first time PGT has applied for a Miami-Dade County NOA for its WinGuard Vinyl products. The approvals mean that these products, the 500 Series Single Hung and Picture Window, can be used in Miami-Dade County and in many other areas of Florida that adhere to the building codes for windborne debris zones. These codes are the strictest in the nation.

“These NOAs will expand opportunities and open new markets for this product line,” said Doug Cross, Vice President of Vinyl Product Stream at PGT. “Customers will have confidence in the strength of our product and will appreciate the energy efficiency and hassle-free maintenance that our vinyl product line offers.”

PGT has received more Miami-Dade County NOAs than any other window and door manufacturer, and is once again raising the bar through its commitment to innovation by producing impact-resistant vinyl windows. The products receiving Miami-Dade County NOAs obtained Design Pressures formally achieved only by aluminum framed windows.

The SH500 Single Hung Window (NOA No. 08-0820.14 and Test Report No. FTL-5710) achieved a Design Pressure rating of +60/-70. The SH500 maximum size tested under the NOA was 52-1/8”(w) x 75”(h). The PW520 Picture Window and Half Circle (NOA No. 08-0820.15 and Test Report No. FTL-5712 & FTL-5729) achieved Design Pressures up to +80/-80. The PW520 maximum size tested under the NOA was 62”(w) x 48”(h) and includes a Half Round architectural shape at 63”(w) x 31.5”(h). All of these facts will allow the products to be distributed outside the usual territory for vinyl windows and doors.

The complete WinGuard Vinyl line of windows and doors includes single hung, double hung, casement, horizontal roller, picture window/fixed lite architectural, French doors and sliding glass doors. WinGuard Vinyl windows and doors come standard with laminated insulating glass that not only meets code requirements for wind-borne debris protection, but also provides enhanced energy efficiency, 99% ultraviolet light filtering and outside noise reduction. Additionally, vinyl frames are maintenance-free and do not require painting because the color goes all the way through with no finish coat to chip, peal or deteriorate.
