Job Title: Electrical Technician
Reports To: Area Leader

Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and electrical control equipment and circuitry by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties not specifically identified in this job description, as may be assigned.
Programs programmable logic controllers and software, using Visual Basic or other software languages, to control production machine functions. Tests, debugs and corrects programming.
Tests motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components.
Diagnoses cause of electrical, mechanical, programmable logic malfunction or failure of operational equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
Review and analyze electrical blueprints for assigned machine system or equipment modifications or expansion. Develop and prepare detailed project write ups which describe the necessary types, sizes and amount of materials and components required for the projects, and establishes location. Directs personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties. Train and instruct new and less skilled employees. Confer with Group Leader on personnel or other matters affecting projects.
Plans, directs, and records periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
Confers with Maintenance and Engineering personnel to assess production machine problems, assist in correcting problems and seek additional guidance in addressing problems.
OPERATE AND/OR USE A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment, including fork trucks, drills, grinders, saws, punches, taps, circuit testers and a variety of other hand tools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two year technical degree or equivalent; 5 to 10 years experience in manufacturing environment preferred and programmable controller experience.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word)
Proficient in at least one computer software language (e.g. Visual Basic)
Basic English language
Basic algebra skills
Ability to diagnose causes of problems and develop effective solutions
